Edward John Markey is the Democratic U.S. Representative for Massachusetts’ 5th congressional district. He is the longest-serving member of both the Massachusetts and New England House delegations. Gabriel E. Gomez is a private equity investor, former U.S. Navy SEAL, and the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate in the 2013 special election in Massachusetts.
Both candidates were very impressed with the Jubaland State of Somalia community in Boston and their political involvement, support, and understanding of how important this U.S. Senate seat from Massachusetts is. Edward Markey emphasized the issues that are going on in Somalia, and told the community that John Kerry and he will work hard to help solve the problems in Somalia, particularly in Jubaland State. He also wants the Jubaland State community in Boston to support him by voting on June 26 of 2013, so he can help John Kerry and President Obama to move their agenda forward. He also states that Gomez and his fellow Republicans do not care about Somalia’s issue and would stand by while innocent kids and women are dying in Jubaland State of Somalia. He went around and shook hands with the Somali community leaders, including Abdillahi Gurah, Mohamed Hassan, Siraad Hussein Mohamed, Said Hassan, Jama Egaal and Abdihamid Ali.
