PRESS RELEASE: From Somali Presidential Candidate Bashir Haji Ali

It is apparent to everyone that Somalia’s successive leaders over the past twenty years have all failed to enact a real and lasting reconciliation. A lasting reconciliation is the main reason that forced me to embark on running for Somalia’s Presidency.

We are all aware of the dangerous path Somalia has been on for the past thirty years that has led to instability and the fragmentation of Somalia. The Federal government, Coalition of Presidential Candidates, and the Federal Member States have failed to implement a free and fair election that was agreed upon by all on September 17, 2020.

I appeal to President Farmajo, as the leader of our nation, to show political maturity and flexibility to reopen collaboration with all political stakeholders in regards to the current political deadlock.

I also appeal to the Coalition of Presidential candidates and the Federal Member States, particularly Puntland and Jubbaland, to demonstrate a strong sense of leadership and resume their collaboration with the Federal Government and their fellow Federal Member States.

I call upon the Somali people, especially the traditional Somali leaders, religious leaders, those within the civil society, and political stakeholders to act immediately in saving our nation’s unity by holding an urgent reconciliation meeting to carry out not only an open but also a fair election.

My political agenda’s top priority is to have an inclusive government that stems from a genuine reconciliation process that considers the sustaining progress of democratic governance.

A stable and ever-enduring Somalia is in the best interest of the people of Somalia, the neighboring countries of Somalia, and the international community.
